How do people create the little avatars/icons/cartoons that they use for profiles on Yahoo?

I’ve gotten involved with Yahoo answers and would like to add an avatar of myself to my profile. How do most people create those?

…♥ Select image you want to use.

…♥ ‘Edit My Info’ next to your avatar.
…♥ which avatar you want to use.
…♥ ‘Preview’ (bottom), then OK.

    click on your pic in Yahoo Answers
    click on the link "Edit my Info"
    click on the link "Get my avatar now"
    continue >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Scroll down to move pages forward
    click "Preview"
    click "Save"
