Avatar – Can this be our generation’s Star Wars?

WATCH IN HIGH DEFINITION.

International teaser trailer for ‘Avatar’.

Avatar is an upcoming 3-D science fiction epic film directed by James Cameron, due to be released on December 18, 2009 by 20th Century Fox. The film is Lightstorm Entertainment’s latest project, and Cameron’s first fictional film in 12 years, having last directed Titanic in 1997. With an estimated budget of $237 million, Avatar is currently the fourth most expensive film.

The storys protagonist, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is a former Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will enable him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Navi, a sentient humanoid race, who are considered primitive, yet are more physically capable than humans. Standing three meters tall (approximately 10ft), with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Navi live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora’s forests in search of valuable minerals, the Navi unleash their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence.

Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Navi hybrids known as Avatars. The Avatars are living, breathing bodies that are controlled by a human “driver” through a technology that links the driver’s mind to their Avatar body. On Pandora, through his Avatar body, Jake can be whole once again. Sent deep into Pandora’s jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora’s beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Navi female, Neytiri, whose beauty is matched only by her ferocity in battle.

Over time, Jake integrates himself into Na’vi’s clan, and begins to fall in love with Neytiri. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth, and the Navi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world.

    they were hybrids …
they were hybrids so it dos make sense about the fingers

  2. berniebear407 says:

    That is because …
That is because Jake has combined DNA. Since it is combined at random, the human traits differ in each avatar body, such as Jake’s human hands and Grace’s almost human-like nose. Avatar is genius. Don’t you forget it.

  3. penguinskywalker says:

    I watched Avatar …
I watched Avatar again some days back and had to laugh. :D The avatars are not perfect. Jake Scully has 5 fingers on each hand whereas Ney’tiri has four. Such is the genius of Avatar.

  4. PivotPiAnimations says:

    Absolutely yes. I …
Absolutely yes. I love SW ( i admit that i like the clone wars tv show) but Avatar completely blew my mind. The story was EPIC!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, and they had good special effects too.

  5. schroff1968 says:

    Both Star Wars and …
Both Star Wars and Avatar got screwed over by the Oscars from movies that very few people cared about. Annie Hall better than Star Wars and The Hurt Locker better than Avatar? WTF!!!!! So in this since Avatar is this generations Star Wars.

  6. larsdalen says:

    Why do they always …
Why do they always have to match the movies with eachother. Both the movies are a legend and both are awesome

  7. 777atheaven says:

    @rajayuca haha rock …
@rajayuca haha rock on colonel “pain” destroyer

  8. Yggdrasil447 says:

    no because star …
no because star wars is still our generations star wars… and its an inconvenient truth that phantom menace and the new star wars series dont compare to the old because thats the way hollywood is nowadays… x3, spiderman3, transformers, its a game to them- bastardize everything ppl once loved

  9. jmoz47 says:

    Let’s just hope …
Let’s just hope that there aren’t disappointing prequels

  10. rokys008 says:

    i know lot of …
i know lot of people who say that avatar is worst movie ever, and they do not see it, and fue days they go to cinema and they say me this: Hi, i was yesterday in cinema on avatar, best movie ever. So it can be NEW star wars

  11. Wyraxx says:

    Avatar have not …
Avatar have not that complexity to be “saga of the generation”

it just a small filmshot versus universes of Lucas “Star Wars” or Tolkien “Lord of the Rings”

  12. ScarFacedGangsta says:

    @rajayuca lol true …
@rajayuca lol true that was funny when he drank coffee lol when Grace said “shoot me?” and the colonel goes “i can do that” lol great quote

    he is my faveorite villain

  13. LukeLovesRose says:

    “STAR WARS didn’t …
“STAR WARS didn’t have amazingly fleshed out characters or an amazing script. It was a collection of archetypes that always work- The Princess, The Charming, roguish Anti-Hero, the funny sidekicks, the blonde, noble hero, the dark villain, etc- and the plot and script were sreviceable but nothing spectacular. I LOVE SW, but people tend to forget that it was nothing above a retelling of many long-standing tropes of literature, just set in space,”

See… tommyburgos gets it. Pocahontas? lol

  14. penguinskywalker says:

    ‘I agree’ … not ‘ …
    ‘I agree’ … not ‘It’s agree’. Sheesh!

  15. penguinskywalker says:

    Umm … hadn’t …
Umm … hadn’t Greedo fired first in the original?

It’s agree that Lucas went into ‘overkill’ and watered things down but I think that replacing the ‘human’ Jabba of the original with the ‘slug’ was important. The new voice, new appearance, the laughter, and the Huttese … it really added character to Jabba the Hutt.

  16. LukeLovesRose says:

    Star Wars fanatics, …
Star Wars fanatics, tell me, how great was the original Star Wars film after Lucas f!cked it up?? Do you really think it is just as great when Greedo fires first??

  17. LukeLovesRose says:

    I hated this teaser …
I hated this teaser trailer when it first premiered online. Now, after seeing the film, it’s actually pretty cool.

But, to answer your question, I definitely think Avatar is the Star Wars of our generation. Considering what Lucas has done to his saga over the years, changing things that never needed it, I dare say, Avatar may be better.

  18. rajayuca says:

    i love the part …
i love the part when badass is benchpressing, then he sits up and has that cocky attitude. lol

and also at the final battle scene, when hes on the cockpit of the plane zipping coffee.

who the in the middle of a fight, would pull out a coffee-mug, like if he was in his living room or something…!!!!

    LOL

only colonel badass!!!…i think ironically hes becoming my favorite character..

  19. EliteSpartan663 says:

    It is this …
It is this generations star wars

  20. ScarFacedGangsta says:

    @rajayuca ye lol …
@rajayuca ye lol that scene was badass i loved the fight, but tbh i knew Colonel Badass was gonna win lol i liked the part when jake blew up the ship and Quaritch got into his AMP and before the ship blew up he jumped with his AMP on fire and he lands on the ground and the ship crashes right behind him lol so sick it usually happens to heroes but this time it was the villain who had the dramatic effect there lol

  21. rajayuca says:

    we all cant deny, …
we all cant deny, that the amp-suit owned the thanator creature. lol

i actually wanted thana to win, but colonel & amp suit made thana their bitch….!!!

just stabbed the out of it!!!!

    lol

(and then you see the colonel saying YEahhhh!!!!!!! LMAOL!!!!!!!!!

    it was pretty hilarious…

  22. Beamshipcaptain says:

    Best Picture of ALL …
    Best Picture of ALL TIME.
    I LOVE AVATAR!!!
Can’t get enough of AVATAR, or Neytiri!

  23. ScarFacedGangsta says:

    @rajayuca You’re …
@rajayuca You’re right Avatar needed more villains, but i think there will be more in the sequels if they decide to make any, and Colonel Qaritch (Colonel Badass) made a good first impression lol

  24. jordycboy says:

u have to see this …
u have to see this movie its AMAZING
(its even better than tellytubbies) YAY

  25. andraken says:

    Yeah, the acting. …
Yeah, the acting. Let’s talk about Ian McDiarmid or Christopher Lee, c’mon!
And both old trilogy and new trilogy are dark and mature. In Lion King no one cut off hands, moreover that is just a cartoon! So, do you know: cartoon -> kids. Star Wars is ALSO for children, but not mainly for them. “Pirates” is more for children.
