How to make an avatar with a blurred effect

Posted by admin on December 15th, 2009 and filed under 50x50 avatars | 1 Comment »

***This video contains a tutorial included in the closed captioning track***

I made this as a self imposed task geared towards helping out all people of the world in need of animated *.gif avatars.
Not just any avatar however, these are the type with those motion blur effects that all the trend in the online world.
This was originally requested by a buddy from deviantArt, but I’ve also seen many people out there who need help attaining the so-called, coveted “blur effect”. So if you know any of them, point them to this video. This tutorial can be summarized into seven steps:

1.) Choose/create your picture
2.) Separate elements from picture from the background on a different layer
3.) Clone layers as necessary prior to blur.
4.) Create a stamp(s) if you plan to make a frame(s) with everything blurred
5.) Blur layers and elements as necessary. (I recommend using motion blurs or other directional blurs such as the radial blur for a “moving” effect)
6.) Create frames and apply times for each to be displayed
7.) Save as a *.gif using the “Save for Web and Devices” option in the file menu.

*Note*
Animated avatars are not compatible with Youtube
Common sizes are 50×50 & 80×80 with limits on total image size

The 4 frame structure I followed for the making of this image was:
1st Frame:Everything Clear
2nd Frame: Motion Blur Vertical
3rd Frame: Motion Blur Horizontal
4th Frame: Blur All
